Physical therapists, bodyworkers, return clients, and people who found their way to the work from unexpected places.

From day one, I felt safe, respected, and appropriately challenged.

I asked my physical therapist to recommend a personal trainer, and she suggested Rock. From day one, I felt safe, respected, and appropriately challenged.

He has a sharp eye for alignment and movement. His background in structural integration has helped me understand why my body does what it does, not just how to muscle through an exercise. Rock listens carefully, adjusts on the spot, and pays attention to details most people miss.

Sessions are focused, efficient, and held in a clean, well-equipped, private space that feels a world away from a typical gym. If you are looking to invest in your health with someone who is truly at the top of their craft, I recommend Rock without hesitation.

Strength & Comfort
The level of strength and comfort in my body has exceeded all of my expectations.

Rock is an encyclopedia of anatomy knowledge with deep intuition on how to help people address and move through their physical challenges. I trust him to guide me into new skills and have never once worried about him leading me toward bad form or injury.

Rock meets me where I am and offers challenges with genuine care. The level of strength and comfort in my body that I have developed in the past year working with him has exceeded all of my expectations. His gym is clean and private, and one of the only truly welcoming gym environments I have ever experienced.

12-Series Complete
He is very, very good at what he does and one of the best in the country.

I highly recommend Rock for structural integration body work. His hands (and his brain!) are his superpower. By the touch, he can recognize specific, detailed soft tissue structures and how to facilitate loosening them if needed. And because he is a personal trainer as well, he understands how your soft tissue structure correlates to your movements. He is very, very good at what he does and one of the best in the country.

He is professional, very detail-oriented, and extremely passionate about his work and wanting his clients to feel better. He will suggest changes - oftentimes very small - in your movements that can lessen or prevent your current discomforts. He may also suggest ways you can loosen areas on your own with specific movements paired with a stationary foam roller or lacrosse ball. (Not the same as traditional foam-rolling.)

The more you implement these changes, the longer lasting the results from his structural integration sessions will last. However, even if you don't, you will still feel changes from a structural integration session, they just won't last as long.

I completed the 12 series and it has been very successful! I have had chronic left ankle issues, that were compounded by years of immobilization in a boot and various braces. For the first time in 6 years, my ankle can tolerate sitting cross-legged, I can now do stairs so much more comfortably, it does not get sore after swimming or treading water, and the speed and distance that I can walk have improved.

In addition, I have several other recurring soft tissue trouble spots in various other parts of my body. They all improved and are more manageable, and I now have tools to use on my own to keep the changes lasting longer.

I am a former occupational therapist, and very body-aware. I had stretched and tried to workout with good form, but was not having luck alleviating discomfort on my own or with the help of podiatrists or other doctors. Structural integration is the vital, missing piece to movement health that mainstream medicine is just waking up to. And Rock is an exceptional structural integrationist.

  • Completed the full 12-Series
  • Cross-legged sitting for the first time in 6 years
  • Stairs, swimming, and walking all improved
  • Tools to maintain the changes independently

Rock's manual therapy skills found and addressed tension I was not even aware was affecting my structure.

I am a bodywork therapist. I was deeply impressed by Rock's knowledge, expertise, and extensive education in both Structural Integration and physical performance training. In the session, Rock balanced supporting me in dictating where I wanted the session to go with directing the best work to get us there.

He offered me expert movement insight that has allowed me to continue the work we started during our session in my daily practice. Rock's coaching style blends humor and goal-oriented focus in a way that keeps things moving and makes the work fun, and the way he prioritized education made me feel empowered and respected.

  • Found tension invisible to another practitioner
  • Movement insight for continuing the work at home
  • Education-first approach that empowers the client
  • Humor plus focus keeps sessions moving

Physical Therapist
The amount of training he has is leagues beyond what people think a personal trainer has.

I am a physical therapist. I have seen how Rock trains people in exercise, how he understands movements, and how he uses his hands for healing. I absolutely recommend his work. I truly respect his skills and experience.

Transformation
It has given me confidence in myself. I do not feel weak anymore.

Before I met Rock and started training with him I had been in a very unhealthy, abusive relationship that stripped me of most my confidence and my motivation to do just about everything. A little while after the relationship ended, I decided that I really needed to do something in my life to make me feel strong and happy again.

Training with Rock is amazing because every time I train, we do something different but always very effective. He is really smart and safe about the way he teaches me how to lift weights so that I do not hurt myself and so that I get the most out of each movement.

I now go to the gym regularly and I am not nearly as intimidated by the equipment as I was. I am doing things now that I did not think I would ever feel confident enough to do before I started training. I do not feel weak anymore.

  • 32-inch box jump
  • Confidence to train independently
  • Improved strength, endurance, and tone
  • Better nutrition habits

Seminar Attendee
You are in excellent hands with Rock.

I am a Massage Therapist and Personal Trainer. You are in excellent hands with Rock. I just completed a four day Scar Work seminar and clinic with Rock at his gym and studio. Rock was our host, assistant teacher, scar work model and much more.

Rock shared his expert knowledge and hands-on training to help us develop our skills. I was able to observe his hands-on work as well as his connection to the local community. Rock made everyone feel welcome and have fun. He is also full of recommendations for the best local Santa Cruz spots to eat, shop and take in the sunsets. Thank you Rock.

Two Decades of Movement
By far Rock has been a revelation on the synergy of body work and movement.

I have been going to physical therapists, massage therapists, personal trainers, yoga instruction, and strength and agility coaches for over two decades now. By far Rock has been a revelation on the synergy of body work and movement.

He helped undo some stiffness and quirky suboptimal range of motion and movement issues that I have had since I was a kid. Things that my track and hockey coach would point out to me, but could never teach me how to fix. Then he helped me build a foundation of functional movement from the ground up. It is a slow process, because you have to unlearn years and decades of bad habits and compensations, but it already has yielded great benefits.

I no longer have to be as careful about my sleep position for fear of pain in my shoulder. I also do not have pain in my knee when I bend it too much. Those are just the beginning of the repatterning.

  • Two decades comparing practitioners
  • Fixed childhood movement quirks
  • Shoulder pain no longer dictates sleep position
  • Knee pain on deep bend resolved

Runner · Age 56
I was able to run the half marathon without pain.

My name is Julie G., I am 56 years old and still love to run. I like to run fast and I like to run far. Approximately two years ago, I injured my knee while running on a treadmill. After much rest, I was unable to get back to the distance and speed that I love, and I could not run without pain. I went to a physical therapist for help without much success. I switched physical therapists and received a different prognosis. Again, no success. I decided I was too old to run.

Then a friend suggested trying a personal trainer he knew, Rock Hudson. I decided to give it one more shot. I contacted Rock and told him I wanted to run a half marathon in twelve weeks without pain. I also gave him a list of my ailments: hip pain, Achilles tendon issues, lower back problems. He did not blink an eye. We got to work right away.

I was able to run the half marathon, and I was able to do it without pain, just under ten-minute miles. I really thought I was too old to keep up this pace, but I am back on track to increase my speed and distance. If and when I run into any more issues, Rock will be my first call.
