§  Frequently Asked

Before you book, the honest answers.

Everything clients commonly want to know before reaching out. Have a question not answered here? Email me or book a complimentary call.

§ I Getting Started

Before your first session.

Prep, clothing, cadence, and where to begin.

How do I prepare for my first session?

Come as you are. No special preparation needed. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Avoid a heavy meal right before the session. If you have any injuries, medical conditions, or specific concerns, let me know when you arrive.

What should I wear?

Clothing that lets you move freely. For Structural Integration: athletic shorts and a sports bra or tank top work well; I need to see and access the tissue. For Movement Education: comfortable workout clothes. You will be moving, not just lying down.

How often should I come?

It depends on what we are doing. For the 12-Series: sessions are typically spaced one week apart. For ongoing movement work: clients typically come two to three times per week. For maintenance after a series: monthly or quarterly tune-ups keep you on track. We will figure out what makes sense for your body and your schedule.

Where should I start?

Not sure? Book a complimentary consultation and we will talk through what fits your goals. Many people start with The Reset (three SI plus three movement sessions) or the Hip Series if hip issues are the main concern. The Smart Starts page has more recommendations.
§ II Structural Integration

The hands-on work.

Fascia, the 12-Series, how it differs from massage and PT.

Is this massage?

No. Massage focuses on relaxation and releasing muscle tension. Structural Integration reorganizes the connective tissue (fascia) to change how your body is organized. It is systematic, not just 'where it hurts.' The pressure is specific and intentional, and we work with your whole structure, not just tight spots.

Does it hurt?

It should not. You will feel pressure and sensation as we work with restricted tissue, but it should never be painful. We work at your edge, not past it. You are in control. If something does not feel right, speak up. Good work does not require suffering.

What's the 12-Series?

The 12-Series is the complete Anatomy Trains Structural Integration protocol, a systematic progression through your entire body over twelve sessions. Sessions 1-4: superficial layers (front line, back line, lateral line, spiral line). Sessions 5-8: deep core (up to the waist, above the waist, back, head and neck). Sessions 9-12: integration and arms. It is designed to create lasting change in how your body is organized.

How is this different from chiropractic or physical therapy?

Chiropractors adjust bones. Physical therapists rehabilitate injuries and strengthen weak areas. Structural Integration works with fascia to change how your whole structure is organized. We are not treating symptoms or injuries. We are reorganizing your body so it works better. These approaches complement each other well.

How long do results last?

Structural Integration creates lasting change in your tissue and alignment. Most people maintain results for years. Your body learns a new organization. That said, if you return to old habits or do not maintain your structure, patterns creep back. Movement education and occasional tune-ups help the work hold.
§ III Movement Education

Coached training that earns its name.

Personal training, workout pairing, barefoot work, injuries.

Is this personal training?

Yes, but evolved. I started as a personal trainer and kept learning until I developed a thorough practice for people who just want to live better in their body. I teach strength, core stability, mobility, coordination, awareness, balance, and flexibility. We set the foundation through quality movement, then build from there. Sustainable, consistently challenging, but just challenging enough that the work does not deter you. Learn more about Movement Education.

Can I combine this with my workout routine?

Absolutely. That is the point. Movement Education makes your training more effective and sustainable. You will move better, lift with better form, and reduce injury risk. Most clients continue their regular workouts while working with me. We clean up how you are moving.

Why do we train barefoot?

Your feet are your foundation. Shoes mask problems and prevent your feet from doing their job. Training barefoot lets you feel the ground, activate the small stabilizing muscles in your feet, and build real stability from the ground up. If you have foot issues, dedicated gym-only shoes are welcome. No outdoor shoes in the gym.

What if I have an injury or recurring patterns?

We work with it. Movement Education can help you move better despite limitations. Structural Integration often helps address the underlying imbalances contributing to persistent issues. I am not treating your injury, but we can improve function and reduce compensation patterns.

Do I need to be in shape to start?

No. We meet you where you are. Movement Education is not about crushing yourself. It is about learning to move well. Whether you are deconditioned, injured, or highly trained, we start with quality movement and build from there.
§ IV Logistics

The practical details.

Location, insurance, cancellation, session length.

Where are sessions held?

Sessions are held at Mavericks Fitness, 311 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz, CA, by appointment only.

Do you offer mobile training or in-home sessions?

Very selectively. I take a limited number of mobile clients based on fit, location, and availability. This requires a consultation first. Round-trip drive time is billed at the standard hourly rate.

Do you take insurance?

No. Sessions are out of pocket. Some HSA and FSA accounts may reimburse for bodywork or training. Check with your provider. I can provide receipts for your records.

What's your cancellation policy?

Life happens. Please give four hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged a fifty-dollar fee. See the Refund Policy for full terms.

Can I buy a single session or do I need to commit to a series?

Both options are available. You can book a single session to try the work, or commit to a package for better pricing and systematic results. Most people see the best results with a series, but you are not locked in.

How long are sessions?

It depends on what you book. Movement sessions are typically sixty minutes. Structural Integration sessions can be sixty minutes, but clients get significantly better results from ninety-minute sessions. The 12-Series includes longer sessions. Single sessions range from sixty to one hundred and twenty minutes depending on what you need.
§ V Philosophy & Approach

How I think about the work.

Why combine structure and movement; fit across ages and levels.

What makes your approach different?

I combine hands-on structural work with intelligent movement education. Most people focus on one or the other. Structure without movement does not stick. Movement without structure is building on a faulty foundation. I address both.

Do you work with athletes?

Yes. Many of my clients are athletes, weekend warriors, or people who train regularly. Better structure and movement quality improve performance and reduce injury risk.

Is this right for older adults?

Absolutely. Age is just context. Structural Integration and Movement Education help you maintain function, reduce pain, and stay active as you age. We adapt the work to meet your body where it is.

What if I'm just dealing with daily aches and stiffness?

That is exactly what this work addresses. Chronic discomfort, stiffness, and nagging issues often come from how your body is organized and how you move. We work on the underlying patterns, not just the symptoms.
