Scar Work. Light touch, lasting change.

Specialized scar tissue therapy that helps your body integrate and heal. Light touch, lasting change.

What is ScarWork?

ScarWork is a collection of light-touch techniques developed by Sharon Wheeler over 50 years of practice. Unlike traditional scar massage, which relies on pressure and friction, ScarWork uses subtle, precise movements to help scar tissue integrate back into the surrounding fascial network. The tissue softens, mobility returns, and the scar becomes part of the body again rather than a separate, restricted area.

Whether your scar is from surgery, trauma, or burns, and whether it is weeks old or decades old, ScarWork can help. Clients consistently report reduced pain, improved sensation, greater range of motion, and visible changes in scar appearance.

My approach to scar work.

I trained directly under Sharon Wheeler, the pioneer of ScarWork and a student of Ida Rolf. I have also worked alongside Wojtek Cackowski and learned from Joy Carey, both leading practitioners in the field. In November 2024, I traveled to Lviv, Ukraine to work with combat veterans at a rehabilitation facility, treating amputees, phantom limb pain, and prosthetic interface issues alongside Sharon and Wojtek.

That experience shaped how I approach every scar. I bring the same precision, patience, and respect for tissue whether I am working on a C-section scar or a decades-old surgical scar. Every scar has a story, and the work begins by listening to what the tissue needs.

Common Questions

Questions, answered.

Does scar work hurt?

+

No. ScarWork uses extremely light touch. Most clients describe the sensation as gentle, almost imperceptible. The techniques work with the tissue rather than forcing it, allowing the scar to release and integrate at its own pace.

How is ScarWork different from scar massage?

+

Scar massage typically involves rubbing or applying pressure to break up scar tissue. ScarWork uses over 20 distinct light-touch techniques that work with the tissue's own properties to encourage integration into the surrounding fascial web. It is gentler, more precise, and produces different results.

How old does my scar need to be?

+

Most scars can be worked on 8 to 15 weeks after surgery, once the wound is fully closed and your physician has cleared you. Older scars respond well too. Even scars that are decades old can change significantly with ScarWork.

How many sessions will I need?

+

It depends on the scar. Some scars shift dramatically in a single session. Others, especially complex surgical scars or old traumatic scars, may need 3 to 6 sessions. We will assess your scar and give you an honest estimate at your first visit.
