What to expect.
Mastectomy scars involve significant tissue removal and often affect the chest wall, armpit (from lymph node dissection), and sometimes the back or abdomen (from reconstruction donor sites). During your session, I work with whatever scars are present, addressing the tightness, adhesions, cording, and restricted movement that commonly develop after breast surgery.
The work is gentle and respects the sensitivity of the area, both physically and emotionally. Many women have not had their chest area touched therapeutically since surgery, and there can be a lot of holding. ScarWork creates a safe space for the tissue to begin releasing. Clients often report improved shoulder and arm range of motion, reduced chest wall tightness, and a sense of reconnection with their body.
I approach this work with the understanding that breast cancer surgery is not just a physical event. The scars carry the weight of diagnosis, treatment decisions, fear, and recovery. Honoring that context is part of the work.
